Used to secure scenery for flying or hanging. While the techniques for flying scenery (lifting it above the proscenium opening) vary, the flattage usually needs to be lifted by a wire rope or hemp. Hangers are affixed to the wooden frames of the scenery to aid in that process.
Top hanging irons are affixed to the top of a scenery flat for hanging. Bottom hanging irons are fitted under the bottom member of a scenery flat. Usually secured parallel to the top hanging iron.
